The *foundation* of it all...

CHRISTMAS CAME EARLY!!!

It's been 4 1/2 months since my last post. Why? We've been saving up. This summer I started calling companies to repair the pier and beam foundation of our house. I found a company that I liked and that had a warranty and were insured. The price point was high so we've been working our tails off to have the money to save so we could pay cash for this re-leveling.

Walking around the house for the past year I had gotten used to the rises and falls from the foundation. We had gotten to a point where we couldn't do anymore finishing work on the inside because of it.

Thursday we got a phone call at work that the foundation company could be at the house on Friday with a full crew to get the job done in a day. I honestly wasn't sure that he had remembered our house because I was certain it would take longer than day. I went downstairs and talked to my boss and she granted me the day off and found me a substitute so I could be here to ensure complete and satisfactory work.

They came out Friday and finished Friday. I was super impressed and we have a level house. It's so weird walking around now and not feeling the rises and falls. The doors are actually closing and staying closed. The kitchen island doesn't nudge forward when pushed. My bed doesn't feel like I'm sleeping in a carnival fun house.

So our first project since the foundation repair is a new front door. We searched 3 different Habitat for Humanity stores and finally found a great one that we could use. It has some scratches but my handy hubby can fix that.

We had to remove the old door and jam, pull out some shiplap and put in the new door with its jam. It takes a lot of adjusting and fine-tuning to make sure that the door will work properly. We also got new hardware for our new front door.

It still needs a paint job and some trim to match the other exterior doors, but I love our new door. And I love the first project we completed!!
